The first month of a new year is behind us and a lot of people are (rightfully) dreaming of spring. Now is a great time to refer to your list of home upgrades—we know you have one—and decide which ones to prioritize. And if floors are on that list, you’re in luck! Industry designers have spoken, and we have the scoop on what flooring trends are hot in 2023.
Wide Planks Out, Subtle Wood Graining In
The rustic wide plank had its day in the sun, but in 2023, we see designers moving away from it in favor of a cleaner look. Likewise, the gray that has been popular for a couple of years now is being exchanged for natural neutrals like light oak. Don’t be surprised when you see this color paired with subtler wood grains.
Checkerboard Floors on the Rise
The checkerboard floor is a trend that has been slowly gaining traction and is predicted to be large in 2023. While it is commonly created with contrasting marbles, it’s one that can be easily captured with wood flooring. Tiling can be expensive, so wood may be the way to go here.
The checkerboard look can be captured either with the traditional pattern or diamonds, for an extra flourish.
Restaining Floors Over Replacing
We’re a big fan of refinishing floors at Classic Wood Flooring. Restaining is a great way to dramatically change your home aesthetic without the expense of new flooring.
The Triumphant Comeback of Tiled Floors
An increasingly popular choice given its versatility and durability. Designers predict that large tiles done in natural or neutral tones will continue to rise in popularity throughout the year. The kitchen is an obvious place for sandstone, flagstone, or limestone, but other spaces throughout the home might be ideal for tiles.
Tiles are also low maintenance with less worry about chemical or food stains.
Chevron Continues to Climb in Flooring Trends
Chevron is another flooring pattern that has been steadily on the rise for a while now. With hardwood remaining a dominant material for the foreseeable future, it’s not surprising that people continue to find new and interesting ways to make hardwood stand out.
The chevron flooring pattern creates a lot of visual interest. This will continue into 2023, creating more dynamic and textural interiors.
Uniquely Shaped Oversized Rugs Trend
In open concept homes, bold, oversized rugs in non-standard shapes are growing in popularity. Bold colors and patterns combined with a unique shape can create a lot of personality or otherwise act as a visual anchor.
